Hello Mt. Healthy family, as you know, students will not be returning to school buildings this school year. That information has informed decisions that we have to make about how we will end this school year and start next year.
Where we are now:
We have decided to continue school until the end of May as originally planned. That means we will be doing remote online learning with your children. By now you should be in contact with your children’s teachers. If you are having difficulty reaching your teacher please reach out to a school principal by email and the building administrator will contact you. If you are having technical difficulties, there is tech support available. Please go to our website to get this information.
Students who have not already retrieved their belongings from school will have that opportunity prior to the end of school. The principals in each building will be sending home information to tell you when the students can safely come to the building to get items.
The high school staff has been working to make this year as meaningful as possible for seniors. We participated in the “ light” video honoring the seniors, there will be a parade and other virtual activities. Based on the guidance of the Ohio Dept. of Health we will have our seniors drive through and pick up their diplomas in their cap and gowns on May 22. The class of 2020 will also have a virtual graduation resulting in a video with speeches, songs, and their pictures. The school board president, Dr. Julie Turner, will graduate students on the video. Unfortunately, there can be no mass gathering, so Seniors will be the only ones allowed out of their family car during the drive-through. The professional graduation video will be available in June!
Mt. Healthy will be holding a small scale summer school. Most students have been receiving extra assistance throughout this academic fourth quarter. Therefore, fewer students will be in summer school because the additional support increased the number of students that passed their classes. Some students still have assignments to complete and some need credit recovery opportunities. You will be notified if your child is one of these students. Summer school will be done remotely. We will continue to provide lunch during our summer school sessions.
School districts must adhere to guidance from the State Health Department, the governor, and the federal government. Therefore, we are developing more than one plan as we look forward to the start of school in the fall. At this time, people must maintain social distance and wear a mask in public gatherings so, it may be possible that we do not have a traditional start to the new school year. We are steadily working to make your student’s experience next year productive, the best instruction possible, engaging, and above all safe! Stay safe and enjoy this time with your families.
Dr. Reva C. Cosby, Superintendent
Mt. Healthy City School District
4/6/20 South Families,
We hope that you are somewhat settling into what is our immediate normal. We wanted to take the time to remind you that we are here to offer any support that you might need in getting your student(s) actively learning through our online platform. We have been excited to see the participation by many students thus far, and enjoy getting to hear their voices and see their faces.
Remember, up to date lesson plans for each grade level can be found on the website- www.mthcs.org
Beginning this week, your child’s teacher will begin to record information on progress. This progress will be entered into progress book so that you can easily monitor the activity.
Please continue to ask questions, be involved in helping your student navigate this experience, but most of all BE SAFE! We hope to see you all in the very near future.
